‘Tis the season… for casseroles! I love creating those old school recipes but a lot of them call for ingredients that I don’t normally cook with. Like a can of Cream of Chicken Soup. Or a can of vegetables. The vegetables were easy to replace. The can of creamed soup, not so much. But after a little testing in the kitchen, I found an easy substitute that you can whip up in no time!

Cream of Chicken Soup Substitution

I love that this Cream of Chicken Soup Substitute allows me to recreate all those nostalgic holiday casseroles but use high quality ingredients. I can use my organic flour and milk, quality butter and fresh ground spices so that I know exactly what is going into my recipes.

While I typically don’t like to think of the holidays as a time to cut back on calories (hi butter!) I don’t want to sacrifice quality ingredients to create those favorite holiday recipes. Enter this quick and easy recipe for Cream of Chicken Soup Substitute! It only takes a few ingredients that you probably already have in in your kitchen!

 

Cream of Chicken Soup Substitute

Makes the equivalent of one can (10.5 oz) of Cream of Chicken Soup

Ingredients: 

  • 3 1/2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup of chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup of whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of curry powder

 

Directions: 

  1. Whisk broth with the flour and spices until smooth in a small bowl. Set aside.
  2. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Stir in milk and mix together.
  3. Slowly whisk in flour mixture. Keep stirring to prevent lumps. Let sauce come to a slow bubble and thicken, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Use in place of can of cream of chicken soup in casserole recipes!

Cream of Chicken Soup Substitute

Cream of Chicken Soup Substitution is a quick recipe that can be used in place of a can of cream of chicken soup! I love that this lets me still create those comforting, old school recipes but use the quality ingredients that I prefer to cook with. This recipe is so quick and easy!
Prep Time 2 minutes
Cook Time 5 minutes

Ingredients
